This version is from Fay Maschler’s ” Eating In”. The original sweet and sour sauce originated in Hunnan, China and was a light vinegar and sugar mixture with little resemblance to the dish served in many Chinese restaurants today.

I came across this Italian chocolate pudding on a recent trip to Italy when i was keen to try something other than Tiramasu for dessert. This is a simple version from Rachel Roddy but both versions I had benefited from the addition of Amaretto, either added to the pudding itself or as biscuit crumbs sprinkled on top. Or both….

Blackcurrant Cobbler (6)

A hot fruity dessert from Nigel Slater’s ” Real Good Food”.Serve with cream or ice cream.

Blackberry Crisp (4-6)

A glorious pudding for summer or autumn from Nigella Lawson’s ” Nigella Express”. If you don’t have enough blackberries you could substitute half the blackberries with chopped pears or apples. It is best served with thick cream or ice cream.

Scallops with Sugar Snap Peas (2)

This is from ” Taste” by Sybil Kapoor. You could replace the scallops with some raw prawns if wished.
