Prawn and Tomato Curry (4-6)

A Keralan recipe from Das Sreedharan. When i lived in Stoke Newington I was very fortunate to have two of his restaurants within walking distance. The first was wholly vegetarian, and the second included some meat and fish. I would alternate between the two, but the crab curry at Rasa Travancore was well worth getting messy fingers. Now I live in Bristol I haven’t yet found an Indian restaurant to equal these two, although I am sure there is one out there somewhere!

Mussels, Goan style (2-4)

One of the first Indian cookbooks i brought was Madhur Jaffrey’s ” Indian Cookery”, published in 1982 to accompany her TV series of the same name . The paperback cost £4.25 which retrospectively seems quite pricey, but as i spent much of the next few years cooking from it regularly it was no doubt worth it. So a few recipes to follow from my old , stained and well thumbed copy.

These mussels can be served with rice, chips or on their own.
