A recipe from Delia Smith’s ” Christmas”.
Ingredients
- 2 bottles red wine e.g. Cabernet Sauvignon
- 2 1/2 pints water
- 1 orange studded with cloves
- 2 oranges sliced
- 2 lemons sliced
- 6 tbsps caster/granulated sugar
- 2 inch cinnamon stick
- 2 tsps finely grated root ginger
- 2 tbsps fruit liquer e.g. Cointreau ( optional)
Servings:
Instructions
- Put all the ingredients in a saucepan then heat to simmering point, stirring until all the sugar has dissolved.
- Keep it at barely simmering point for at least 20 minutes but do not allow to boil or the alcohol will evaporate.
- Serve warm in half pint mugs.
